Too little too late for Sony? I don’t think so… And the head honcho of SCE in-house studios, Shuhei Yoshida, says there’s nothing to it but to do it … and by that I mean embrace the “garage” (or homebrew) developers because we must assimilate to innovate.

Sony will be offering [inexpensive] PS Vita dev kits because “as an industry, we have to support those smaller teams, and let them try out their ideas. Without doing so, the whole industry will stall, in terms of innovation.” True that. And it’s about time.

But what’s inexpensive to Sony? I’m not too sure… I suspect the SDK will still set the average homebrewer back a couple thousand bucks. The SDK will probably have its limitations too; Yoshida “appeared to be encouraging developers to make touch-only games – the types of experiences that dominate the booming smartphone games market.”

This is definitely a step in the right direction for SCE … lets just hope Sony executes it with fashion.

Yea right, next they'll be saying that all "Garage Devs" must purchase an official Dev Kit ($2,000+), otherwise it will be classed as unauthorised software therefore "Illegal" in Sonys eyes.
