Activision has now officially responded to the reported shakeup at Infinity Ward.

The publisher has confirmed studio heads Vince Zampella and Jason West have left the company. There was no mention of "insubordination" or "breach of contract" in Activision's statement.

Activision Publishing CTO Steve Pearce and head of production Steve Ackrich are temporarily in charge of Infinity Ward.

According to the release, Infinity Ward will move forward on developing two downloadable map packs for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 that will come out this year

A new Call of Duty is coming from Treyarch Games later this year. What we didn't already know, however, was Activision's intentions for Sledgehammer Games (headed by former Visceral Games developers Glen A. Schofield and Michael Condrey) to release a brand-new Call of Duty game "in the action-adventure genre" sometime in 2011.
No setting or gameplay details were revealed for either upcoming Call of Duty product (but we all suspect Vietnam) , but the "action-adventure" description suggests it won't be a first-person-shooter.

Activision also vaguely discussed intentions for the future of the series, which include pulling the Call of Duty franchise under a singular business unit. Activision also intends to "expand" the Call of Duty brand similar to what Blizzard Entertainment has done with its franchises.

This lines up with Activision's public intentions to eventually release a subscription-based Call of Duty game. According to Activision, this change "will include a focus on high-margin digital online content and further the brand as the leading action entertainment franchise in new geographies, new genres and with new digital business models."

"2010 will be another important year for the Call of Duty franchise," said Activision Publishing president and CEO Mike Griffith in a brief statement. "In addition to continued catalog sales, new downloadable content from Infinity Ward and a new Call of Duty release, we are excited about the opportunity to bring the franchise to new geographies, genres and players."

So what do you guys think?? Is the the new beginning of the Call of Duty series??
Also, The whole "action-adventure" quote intrigues me?? what do you guys think it means??

Well there goes the Call of Duty Games. I know I am not buying another one from here on out unless it's an older one that I don't have. I refuse to buy Call of Duty: Vietnam due to how that war turned out for all who was involved, including the United States. Imagine how that Campaign is going to be? Horrible if you ask me.

Now this stupid stuff? No more FPS? Action-Adventure type of game play? So they want to turn it into Final Fantasy? That's queer.

Looks like I'll be going to Battle Field. At least that's a decent non-FPS game. Then maybe whatever SOCOM game Zipper produces.

Only two MW2 Map packs? That's not "Loads of DLC" that IW said they had planned. Hell, the last MW had ONLY two MAP packs and that was it. No new weapons, campaign, or nothing.

COSad AwesomeW@W had 3 map packs. MW2 deserves LOADS more than just two, and new weapons, campaign, Spec-Ops, Titles, Emblems, Killstreaks, Game modes, etc.

Well I suppose this game had a good run. It's a shame to see that Activsion is going to murder this game.

By making CoD third-preson shooter is like suicide... Call of Duty has 2 be FPS, thats the way we all love it!

Activision is utterly stupid for letting go co-creators of the largest FPS game ever. Just shows you all they want is money. I for one, will not buy anything from Activision again. Eventually Socom4 will come out, and in the meantime, BFBC2, MOH, and Ghost Recon: Future Soldier, all look good. CoD can only be #1 for so long.

Love Big Titty Bitches
it's funny that most people in this thread are complaining about COD not being FPS. Bigger issue is the two main people at IW have left in the middle of promoting MW2's DLC. that makes me think the DLC is just going to suck. Not sure what to expect for the current game.

On top of that... a subscription based COD game? I really don't want to pay $10 a month to play a game I get so pissed off at. Happy

personally i love the modern warefare series i think there is some adjustments to be made esp the new one is way too nooby for my tastes they kinda said hey if you suck we will give you a hand....but that isn't the real problem with the game the only cage match and team tac is 3rd person.....i won't even play them too many losers sit inside windows and look out them with camera camp up a storm and just genearlly the game play is GARBO if 3rd person ends up the rout they take i will not be buying them as a person who has been a cod addict since i played cod2 i would say that they are definately loseing a fan and money from me but the do what they want we as gamers just have to boycot and not buy it hopefully they come to there senses then and go back as far as treyarch not a huge fan of them either thought WAW was a complete waste of money although it was more the game play it inspired super campers....aka slow and non talented but that is just me

Do a barrel roll!
If they make cod a third person shooter then nobody will buy it because third person is rubbish and if they do you can say R.I.P to call of duty.
