Well i just found out the UAV had a machine gun on it. I assume you have to unlock this?

Nope. Just place the V ALT W perk/specialization in slot three, then press L2/R2 (depending on your controller set-up and I'm unsure for 360) and it will fire the machine gun. BE WARNED though, it has a limited supply of Ammo.
