In a strange series of events, the former Infinity Ward bosses Vince Zampella and Jason West are suing Activision, the producer of the Call of Duty franchise, for violating the terms of their contract and firing them just a couple weeks before they were due for some substantial royalty payments.
In the words of Zampella's and West's lawyer, "Instead of thanking, lauding, or just plain paying Jason and Vince for giving Activision the most successful entertainment product ever offered to the public, last month Activision hired lawyers to conduct a pretextual 'investigation' into unstated and unsubstantiated charges of 'insubordination' and 'breach of fiduciary duty,' which then became the grounds for their termination on Monday, March 1st."
Although I by no means am in possession of the full information of what occurred at Infinity Ward, it certainly seems counter-intuitive to fire the heads of the company after (somewhat) successfully releasing one of the most popular games of all time, and with DLC due just around the corner.
So is Activision just a bunch of cheapskates who find any loophole they can to further their wealth, or were Zampella and West truly out of line? Stay tuned for further developments.
