VALVe, the company behind hit games such as Left 4 Dead and Half-Life has announced it will add support for it's revolutionary game-distribution service named Steam to the Apple operating system.

All games using the Source engine will be natively playable on Mac OS X for the first time. (Unfortunately this will not be the case for linux users, hopefully their support will be added soon)

Steam is singlehandedly responsible for 70% of all PC game purchases. Huge games such as Modern Warfare 2 and Just Cause 2 are simultaneously released on Steam as in stores.

However, Steam for Mac bodes good news for all gamers. Mac steam users will be able to play online multiplayer with PC users with no hindrances. Custom material will not be a problem and SDK kits will be available for mappers and modders.

Steam Play is a new feature allowing those with pre-purchased PC games such as Left 4 Dead 2 to be able to play them on mac at no extra charge. Steam Cloud walks hand in hand with Play as it allows saved data and player details to be stored on VALVe's servers. While playing a Half-Life campaign on your at home PC you could then switch to your Macbook Pro and play it on a journey with no lost progress.

Macintosh is being treated as a 'Tier 1 platform' and all future releases and updates will be released simultaneously. Portal 2 has been confirmed to be the 1st simultaneous release on PC, Xbox 360 and Mac.

Valve are porting their game engine: Source to mac. This means all games and programs utilising this engine will be usable.

Most importantly Steam will hopefully trigger an avalanche of developers adding support for mac. Telltale games is porting their popular Sam and Max game series to the mac. Currently only large companies such as Microsoft and Adobe co-release their programs on both operating systems.

Yes, the multiplayer servers are shared with PC and mac, we can also fully use mods. Also Omni i'd advise you to talk to King Jamie about a steam acc Winky Winky - Steam play let's you get games you already own for pc free on your mac. Let's just say Jamie could hook you up as he did with me.
