During E3, a video of the new Halo Reach mode, Firefight was unveiled.

Here is a gameplay video of it

Unlike the ODST version of Firefight mode, this one allows players to create their own game rules, upload them onto xbox live, and have other members download the ruleset and use it as their own.

Some of the things that are customizable are: Time limit on the game, the number of wave(s)/round(s) that are in the game. One could also choose the Enemies that appear during the waves, and the overall number of enemies appearing. Another thing that can be customized are the Skulls that people can find while playing in Firefight mode.

For those that do NOT know what Skulls are, they alter the game for players, such as taking away regenerating shields, or taking away the player's HUD.

While customizing a game, one will also have the ability to choose the type of variant they want, out of a possible four that have been released thus far.

The four variants are:

Generator Defense - Defend the Generators for a period of time from the covenant forces.

Rocketfight - Gives players unlimited rockets to play with (things get interesting with this mode)

Firefight Classic - This is the same thing as the ODST version, the game ends when all players have died.

Un-Named Default Mode - This is the new "default" Firefight mode, which allows the action to take different paces, with some rounds full of action and fighting many enemies, to other rounds only have a few difficult enemies (Bring on the Hunters!!!)

Also included in the E3 video were a couple of new weapons.

Here is the Official E3 Video for Firefight

One of the new weapons, called the Target Locator, will have a similar feel to that of the Spartan Laser, except instead of a Laser being shot, an Orbital Attack will rain down upon the enemy or targeted area.

Another new weapon, The Concussion Rifle, which fires molten hot rounds that pierce through the Spartan's Armor easily, is a Covenant weapon.

Aside from seeing new weapons, a new Armor Ability was also shown. The new armor ability is called the "Drop Shield" and is basically a portable Bubble Shield that allows players to hide from any incoming bullets/explosives that are not fired inside of the Shield.

Now, for the detail that impressed me the most, the fact that players can finally use matchmaking to play Firefight.

In ODST, there was only the option to play with friends, which led to a disadvantage when playing without 3 other friends.

This new Firefight mode has impressed me a LOT, and I am excited to play it when Halo: Reach launches in stores on September 14th.

Million Miles Of Fun!
Very nice, any I think its pretty cool how bungie gives competitive and community support to cater its serious players like MLG playlists and the ability to change the game set rules and features then upload for others to use as well when they want to have some fun.

Now all they need is to allow players to do some custom skinning and they beasted it.

Nice post Kinetic. I didn't even think about firefight being added back! I thought firefight was a lot of fun, but people just used ODST for Recon and they were done with it, plus you couldn't search over XBL to find people. Glad to see they added that feature in. BTW Nice avatar. Winky Winky

Im glad that bungie is giving more and more power to the actual players of the halo series. they are allowing you to truly customize your experience with the game. They are also allowing you to make very realistic user content using a similiar engine to the one the game was designed on. They are pushing the limits of user created custom games.

The COD series and games like it need to catch on.
