(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}); You wanted an interview with one of the boys in red and here is the first of a few to come hopefully Smile Coltz is the first admin to sit in the hot seat so without further a do, here is how it went...

Winty: so, first off, where do you come from?

Coltz: North-Metro Atlanta, right next to Tee-Rar if anyone out there has seen him around the forums. Atlanta in Georgia in the US of course.

Winty: Very nice, as I have said, America would be a dream to go to, so your the co-owner, there from the start, so tell evryone how did NGU come about?

Coltz: It is a very interesting story, so I suppose I will start from ~4 years ago when Outsider and I made eXo HaX v2, which was created mainly as a private website which had only a couple hundred users, but to become a member, you had to apply for it first. Imagine eXo HaX v2 as the Premium section on NGU today, except you had to apply and it was actually free. Then we ended the site and created eXo HaX v3, which was wide open to the public and was the original version of NextGenBoards. Outsider was making tons of youtube videos and whatnot, which added members galore to our site, and then some stuff went down, involving power hungry leaders taking complete control of the site that I don't care to go into. So in turn Outsider and I both started working on NextGenUpdate and publicly released it right around the start of Summer in 2008. That is kind of the back story to how NGU was started up.

Winty: Nice, sounds really interesting, but now look at NGU, over 200,000 members, did you ever think it would be this big?

Coltz: Not when it was first created, but after a couple of months of the site being up there seemed to be something peculiar about how everything was lining up in favor for the site (donations, popularity, community especially) and I then realised that the sky was the limit.

Winty: Yes it sure is, the site you have made is amazing, so where do you see the site going?

Coltz: Well there are a lot of things being produced for our website, such as the resurrection of the NextGenUpdate YouTube channel and the creation of the NGUcommunity YouTube channel. Trying to get those two intertwined in a creative manner is going to be fun. There are also other things we have been working on for the past two years, that I'm not going to tell the community just yet Winky Winky , that are coming to fruition. As I said before, the sky is the limit for this website, because the community is just like a big family, it is really beautiful.

Winty: Yes I would have to agree and can't wait for what is in store for the site :-) , still on the subject of NGU, your name, has it always been that and where did it come from?

Coltz: Ha, well I am a huge University of Tennessee football (american) fan. There was a great player for that team named Peyton Manning, who now plays in the NFL for the Indianappolis Colts and the time I made this name was the year they were going to the Super Bowl, so Colts + #1 team = Coltz-One. I also created a variation to the name in kltznum1 back when I was in 6th grade at age 11. So yes, I have had the alias for the past 7 years and it is gonna stay that way Smile

Winty: Interesting, many people say they don't see you round the site much, even though you are, do you prefer to lurk as an admin?

Coltz: Yes, before Outsider removed the moderating stats for admins, I had the most moderating actions for all the admins. Thou, I don't post much, I do lurk the website and clean up plenty of issues. I guess not posting often doesn't make me as popular, but that is okay with me.

Winty: Good to hear and now the members know, so as an admin you get along with most members I assume, but any members you prefer get along with the most?

Coltz: From my experience, any member that can spell words and use grammar well, I enjoy talking to on this forum. Generally the people I talk to most on the forum are Outsider, Tee-Rar, SchaffinOSX, StaticVoid (VoidModders). Those are just the ones that I talk to on a day-to-day basis.

Winty: Nice, so recently there was the HSx9 incident, which got many different rumours surrounding it, what were your views on the matter?

Coltz: HSx9 is still my friend, but I do not care that he has decided to split with us, because his website is not going to survive for too long. The major difference between his site and NGU is that his site is basically NGU's leeches and a few contributing members. NGU has those same leeches, but it has many more contributing members and is a much larger community.

Winty: Okay, nice to have your views, less of the NGU questions now, so are you a Xbox or PS3 guy?

Coltz: I am a PS3 fanboy, but I have both consoles, and to be honest, I play my Xbox more. I play it more, because games generally run better, because they are not ports, and because I have many more friends on Xbox. Cross-Game private and party chat is also nice, along with mics that are comprehensible. Thou I say these things, I am still always a Sony guy first and will always buy their stuff when it is released.

Winty: I am a PS3 guy myself, simply for the fact I have one, but I would never buy an Xbox, so on your consoles, what do you enjoy playing?

Coltz: Obviously Call of Duty is really big right now, but other than that I enjoy playing Guitar Hero/Rock Band and LittleBigPlanet.

Winty: Call of Duty seems to be where it is at with most gamers, but good to see you don't mind others, where do you see yourself in 10 years time and NGU?

Coltz: Well I plan on becoming a computer programmer, I have no idea where at, but that is the profession I want to take up. As for NGU, I see a much more professional and well-developed website than it is now. I feel that NGU will become much more than a forum in future years and will become a leader in gaming websites.

Winty: I like your thinking, seems like you have it all worked out, starting NGU was a major thing I am sure, but was there any point in the making of the site, you thought this might not work?

Coltz: Around the second month, Outsider and I had no extra money and we did not get nearly enough donations to keep the site running. My dad then created an account and donated 200$ to our PayPal fund to keep the site up for another month. So that was really the only big scare we had, which was the issue of not getting enough donations. Obviously that is no longer the case, as NGU has never missed its donation goal once since that second month. The fact that we have been so fortunate is miraculous, and really seems to make one think that this site is special.

Winty: Yes to have survived through that must mean something, and I see it to become even bigger and better, so behind just being an admin, what is the real Coltz like?

Coltz: I have many real life friends, but I am quite shy. I generally don't have any trouble finding girls to hang out with :p . My whole life outside of my office revolves around working out and becoming a better athlete. I drive two different cars, one is a Dodge Ram 1500 and the other is a Jeep Grand Cherokee Loredo.

Winty: Just wanted to know a little bit about you in real life, for the members :-)

Coltz: Haha alright good

Winty: Any things for members to look out for on NGU in the coming months?

Coltz: I don't want to give too much away :p . I would say look for the YouTube channel and News sections to become a much bigger part of our community.

Winty: Yes that would be great, being #2 on the site, you must have some pretty interesting tales from your time here, any of which stick out that you would like to share?

Coltz: Well there are some good ones for sure, but I cannot remember them vividly enough to be able to elaborate clearly on them, but I will try my best. Once, a long, long, time ago. We had an admin named MATT51723 and he went kind of crazy and got removed from the website. I actually don't remember exactly what happened, but it was quite entertaining at the time. I do have one good one from last year, thou.

Winty: Spill ;-) ...

Coltz: April Fools, 2009, all of the moderators and admins switched the colors of our names and swapped names with each other and screw with people. I will make that topic public in the news section for people to read, if they want to see what all happened in high detail.

Winty: I am sure the members would love to hear about it and would be great, so before I love you and leave you, any dirt to dish out?

Coltz: I have already put enough out there about the future, but I will give a tip to aspiring moderators. Anyone wanting to become a moderator, you have to really earn respect from the community, before you can acquire that title. I know that someone will be a bad moderator, when I promote them and all of a sudden I am getting messages about how they have done wrong to other members and whatnot, it causes bad chemistry in the community. So the moral to the story is; if you want to become a moderator, you must not have any "dirt on your shoulder" and you must be liked by 99% of the contributing community.

Winty: Good advice right there from the guy in red right there, any last words for members?

Coltz: <3

Winty: Well this has been amazing getting the opputunity to interview you, thanks for your time, we have now racked up over an hour and would love to continue but time is against me, so thanks again Coltz :-D

Coltz: no problem man, I'll give you the link to the april fools page, when you post the thread. So just give me a heads up.

The link to the thread mentioned above will be up soon and a link will be provided, but after over an hour of talking we decided to call it a night. I hope you love the interview and look forward to future ones.

Comments Appreciated

Cheers,

Winty

Another great interview by Winty. You're doing a great job sir.

As for Coltz... I've had the pleasure of working with a bit over my time as a moderator... he's always down for the community. He's always there to help people with a rational approach thinking of members first. As he said, he's not "visible" or posting a lot, but he's always there for us all. Smile Keep up the good work Coltz. I certainly apprecaite it all!!!

Really good interview Winty.

Asked questions that had some really good answers. My personal favorite was the story about how the site almost didn't make it in the second month. Something I didn't know and a cool story Happy

Great interview! It's good to hear this from an administrator that we don't hear from very much. I'm happy to hear that there are indeed some exciting things to come in the future, and even more excited because they are not being revealed just yet.

Again, good interview. Smile

This is my favourite interview by far up to now. I particularly liked the bit about how NGU started. Really interesting stuff. Keep them coming Winty!
