PlayStation 3 Surround Sound System

Sony announced earlier at E3 a special Surround Sound System, although it didn't make it into the press conference, Sony has launched a subwoofer, which offers an all-in-one Surround Sound System specially designed for PS3 gamers..

Now, a release date for it has just been announced!

Sony Computer Entertainment Japan (SCEJ) announced today that the Surround Sound System for PS3 will be released in Japan on September 30, 2010. Details of its release in other territories have not been released yet but I will try to keep you informed about this.

The Surround Sound System for PS3 will be retailing at 19,800 yen, which is around $225 for US gamers and for English it looks to be around £150.

According to Sony, the Surround Sound System utilises cutting-edge technologies, including Sony's S-Force PRO Front Surround Sound that generates rich realistic surround sound over one front speaker and presumably means gamers, keen to keep things minimal, can have one less box under the television.

The Surround Sound System comes with two audio inputs − an optical audio input for connecting high-end entertainment systems including PS3, and an analogue audio input for connecting portable devices like the PSP system to enjoy listening to music in the living room.

Me being a PS3 owner, I can't wait for the release of this, as I believe, the design looks slick and will sit infront of my TV nicely, will give amazing sound hopefully, however a downfall of the product it is only one speaker, and a very large one at that so if you have a small TV then I don't think this is the answer. Also gaming headsets will probably be more popular still, so this could be one for all you movie lovers. To be honest Sony has took too long to release this, as there are so many gamers that will already have surround sound systems, maybe better and for cheaper. So with this Sony are going to have to pull it out of the bag for it to be a major hit.

Will this product take off?
