A supposedly leaked screenshot of the new campaign. Note L4D1 survivors with L4D2 guns.

<font face="verdana" color="black">Following the hugely successful release of 'The Passing', VALVe have announced another DLC package that will be hitting Left 4 Dead 2. With the name of 'The Sacrifice', this DLC will also be available to play on Left 4 Dead. VALVe wanted to link the two games directly and explain the causes that led the survivors to meet.

The namesake of the campaign is due to the fact that at the end of the campaign, one of the L4D1 survivors will sacrifice themselves to save the others. VALVe will 'let the community choose which survivor', although it is unclear whether we may choose either at the end of the campaign or in another way such as a poll.

This DLC will also add on the No Mercy campaign from Left 4 Dead into Left 4 Dead 2. If playing No Mercy on Left 4 Dead 2, it is the same campaign, although all Left 4 Dead 2 guns, equipment, zombies and so on will be added to it. You will play as the Left 4 Dead 1 set of survivors in both of these campaigns, even if you play them on Left 4 Dead 2 (i.e. Francis, Bill, Zoey and Louis). The DLC on Left 4 Dead 1 will merely add 'The Sacrifice' campaign. Since Bill died in circumstances unknown to us before the passing it seems strange that VALVe have allowed the community to choose the sacrificial survivor. We'll have to wait and see. As in VALVe's customary tradition, a comic will clear up some missing holes in the plotline. I'll be sure to post it.

This DLC really does sound great and I loved the No Mercy campaign. It'll be a lot of fun to be able to play it on Left 4 Dead 2 with the new gameplay mechanics, scavenge mode may be interesting on it. For Mac users, such as myself, VALVe have mentioned that it will co-release on PC and Mac, ensuring that the latest date L4D can now be available for Mac is in October, when 'The Sacrifice' is released. I believe it will ship sooner for mac, though!

I haven't really messed with L4D/L4D2 in a while, mainly because L4D2 let me down severely and L4D got stale, but maybe this is the nudge I need to get back into playing it; Valve is usually pretty good about making their add-ons epic for the price, so I'll probably be willing to shell out a few MP's to check this out. Thanks for the info!
