Post: Risks Of Activating Your PSN Account On Other PS3's
08-24-2010, 10:54 PM #1
(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}); So most of us know that it's possible to activate up to 5 PlayStation 3's with the one PSN account. Apparently one person on a blog needed to have his account reset to zero PS3's so that they could activate their newest PlayStation 3 and had a really tough time trying to accomplish this.

His situation wasn't brought on by 'game sharing', but just that they liked to play their PSN games on multiple PS3's. Those PS3's of family and friends raised his number of activated PS3's. The problem came about when 4 of these PS3's received the 'YLOD' ('Yellow Light Of Death'Winky Winky. They were unable to deactivate any of the 4 PS3's that had their current information and account on them.

They called Sony, confident that they would be assisted in the deactivation of all PS3 systems but instead of a helpful, cheery, friendly reps, they were bombarded with questions along the lines of "why are you stealing?" and permanent-ban threats. According to the blog author they were made feel as if they had committed a crime and was being interrogated.

Eventually, after a tough time of being falsely accused of game-sharing/stealing they were granted a one-time chance to get all their PS3's reset to prevent a practically useless new PS3.

"It was quite frustrating to have threats of banning etc coming from a company that you continually dish out hundreds if not thousands of dollars for."

They were even told by one rep to "create a new account". This left many questions in the mind of this person which are along the lines of:

  • Why did Sony boast “share games with up to 5 people” in the beginning to offset the price of their $600 console?

  • Why are we not allowed to play PSN games we own on other consoles?

  • Who are these reps to interrogate us? They are simple call center reps with god complexes now.

  • Why make some games unshareable, while leaving the rest?

This puts doubts in my mind about what I thought about Sony. Normally the refs take kindly to enquiries of all kinds but this, I though, was unheard of. If I was the one that rang up and was in this situation I would probably have made them refs retire from the broad range of verbal abuse they would have received.

I sort of understand Sony, 4 YLOD PS3's is very very very rare. I had my ps3 since Christmas 2006 and i received the YLOD on June 2010, so 4 YLODS sounds like bullshit. But it is still possible, so i understand that they were very questionable.

But thanks for this post, good to know that the limit is 5Smile THANKS!
