Microsoft have increased the price of the Xbox Live Gold subscription by $10, which makes the cost of the subscription $59.99, which allows the consumer to have access to the online service for a year.

The reason behind the price increase is most likely because of the addition of new services such as ESPN, Facebook, Twitter, Netflix, Last.fm and Video Kinect.

Polls carried out by EEDAR revealed that 30% of Xbox 360 consumers played a video game online 15 times or more in the last 3 months, whereas only 23% did on the PS3, and only 10% on the Wii. Despite the cost it would appear consumers are finding greater value in the Xbox Live service as opposed to Playstation Network or Wii Online which offer free alternatives.

If you are currently an Xbox Live subscriber, it is possible to 'lock' your subscription, and continue to pay the same rate if you buy now. This offer is available on the official Xbox website.

Ok so what stops us from buying 3 or 4 12 month cards in advance nothing so this is kind of pointless, also id rarther pay for live than use PSN i just think its all rond better quailty, you can play music whilst on games cross game chat ive never seen xbox live down and ive often seen PSN down i suppose what you can say is,

You pay for what you get,
Pay nothing = Shit

Pay $50 = all round great experience online

I want to see some type of ala carte pricing structure for Xbox Live. Something where you can pick only the services you want and only pay for them. Out of all the “new” features, Netflix, Twitter, Facebook, Last.fm, and espn3.com, I plan on, and right now, only using Netflix. Now why should I have to pay and support the others in this?

Give me online play, my friends list, Netflix and only charge me for that, because that is all I use. This whole all or nothing pricing structure is just plain stupid and out of touch with consumers, we want choices and options, give them to us and let us decide how we want to spend our hard earned dollars.

what you should do is buy like 20 og them then sell em for less then what the shops are selling them for when the price rises.

liek z0mG! oh noez! 10 more dollars a year is going to make my bank balance go red :( Guess i can't play xBox no morez. /facepalm

Dipshits.

And this only affects people who pay full price, anyways. Get 'em off of Amazon if it bothers you that much.
Or get the $100 a year for 4 accounts package.
