Microsoft have increased the price of the Xbox Live Gold subscription by $10, which makes the cost of the subscription $59.99, which allows the consumer to have access to the online service for a year.
The reason behind the price increase is most likely because of the addition of new services such as ESPN, Facebook, Twitter, Netflix, Last.fm and Video Kinect.
Polls carried out by EEDAR revealed that 30% of Xbox 360 consumers played a video game online 15 times or more in the last 3 months, whereas only 23% did on the PS3, and only 10% on the Wii. Despite the cost it would appear consumers are finding greater value in the Xbox Live service as opposed to Playstation Network or Wii Online which offer free alternatives.
If you are currently an Xbox Live subscriber, it is possible to 'lock' your subscription, and continue to pay the same rate if you buy now. This offer is available on the official Xbox website.
