As most people know, you can play games in 3D on the PlayStation 3. However not a lot of people realize that other platforms are capable of 3D gaming as well.

By clicking on the pages to the right you can see just what consoles can handle 3D gaming, what games are in 3D and what you need to do to play in 3D.

What you Need:
In order to use the 3D feature on the PS3, you need to upgrade your PS3 to 3.50 or above, a 3D-enabled TV and a compatible 3D glasses. Enabling the system to play games or Blu-rays in 3D is simply confirming your TV’s 3D-readiness through the display setting in your display settings.

What you can Play:

Currently there are only a few games that are designed just for 3D such as Wipeout HD, Topple, Motorstorm Rift 3D and Super Stardust HD. However, there are more titles lined up for 3D such as Call of Duty: Black Ops and Gran Turismo 5, these are able to support the 3D output later this year along with Killzone 3, Crysis 2 and much more. Of course, not all games of those games are designed just for 3D, some of them such as Black Ops can be played in 2D as well.

[multipage=Xbox 360]

The Xbox 360 is considered to be 3D-capable; however, Microsoft is leaving it up to specific games developers to slot 3D into their games. 3D on the Xbox functions similarly to the PS3, its just Microsoft isn’t making it an integrated feature.

What you Need:

Due to the number of games that are capable to play in 3D is very limited you will need a 3D TV with 2D which can convert to 3D to play games in 3D, even though the effect isn’t beneficial for players.

What you can Play:

The Xbox 360 doesn’t have many games designed just for 3D. The only games that are available for 3D are: James Cameron’s Avatar: The Game and Invincible Tiger: The Legend of Han Tao, an Xbox live arcade game. Like the PlayStation 3 version, Call of Duty: Black Ops will offer 3D gaming support for the Xbox 360 later this year, however it is the last game scheduled to support 3D by the end of 2010.

If you only own a Nintendo Wii then you’re out of luck, 3D gaming on the Wii isn’t possible, at least not in the same capacity as the PS3 or the Xbox due to it not being able to support modern 3D because it cannot output HD resolutions.

Gaming in 3D for PC has been possible since 2008 with “NVIDIA’s 3D Vision,” which uses the same kind of Active shutter that current 3D TVs use, but incorporates it as an add-on USB transmitter. The Nvidia 3D vision allows users to play a much wider range and number of games than the PlayStation and the Xbox.

What you Need:

In order to use the 3D Vision you obviously need the 3D Vision, which is bundled with the transmitter, necessary software and a pair of active shutter glasses. The system also requires that users have a compatible NVIDIA GPU and a monitor with 120Hz refresh rate.

What you can Play:

Because the NVIDIA 3D Vision first came out in the last two years it means you can pretty much play everything. Nvidia has been extremely pro-active about working with various developers to have 3D vision support on new and popular games. Some of the highlights of supported 3D titles are: Battlefield: Bad Company 2, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, Crysis: Warhead, and StarCraft II and much much more!
