Writer's Note: It's funny to me that we're hearing this from the very same individual who originally endorsed the idea of an online pass. Of course it's great to hear him saying these things now, but is this perhaps him just trying to save his name that has, to an extent, been poison for the gaming industry ever since he mentioned his support for a "pay-for-play" service?

EA is currently one of the first gaming publishers that have decided to experiment with the concept of charging gamers to play their games online.

Kotick, who originally support the "pay-for-play" concept, mentioned that Activision "can do some of these things that EA and others have done." Surprisingly, he veered away from statements like of his past ones, and said: "We actually don't think it's in the best interest of the gamer, and so we've chosen not to."

Activision is instead going to continue their current strategy, which involves releasing downloadable content for their titles. As we've seen with the map pack downloadable content for Modern Warfare 2, this strategy has done wonders for Activision and the series.

"The best way to keep people engaged in your game experience is keep giving them more great content," said Kotick. "I think we've generally tried to do things like encourage our customers to used-game sales, probably more so than our competitors. But you know, we're very mindful of what's happening macroeconomically and I think that that plays a role when we're thinking about the price of our content."

Though the worry concerning a "pay-for-play" service in the Call of Duty series died down some time ago, this should bring a conclusion, for now at least, to any lingering concern. As much as I'd like to say Activision is doing this out of the generosity of their hearts, I merely believe that they saw this a better business move to help create momentum and support in their favor. Nonetheless, the gamers have come out victorious.

That is to say that gamers want anything to do with Call of Duty anymore.

Great to hear, I personally would never like to see myself playing a payed for Call of Duty, nor the millions of dollars in Activision's pockets. =D

Pay or don't play.... Does this include PC call of duty as well?

I think they realized no one will pay. If I rent a game at Blockbuster for $10 the last thing I am going to do is pay another $10 just to play online. I'm not gonna pay $20 just to play the full version of a game for 5 days.

There have been games out with this feature that I thought looked good, I have since forgotten about them. Liked MoH beta, didn't touch the game because it would take $20 just to try it out. Absurd.

On a side note, Kotick is still the devil

That why PS3 is better Smile Just saying....but I wouldn't pay to go online, cause Activision already made a lot of money so I don't see why they need to charge for online
