As of late, there has been a lot of talk concerning Activision's plans for the Call of Duty series. First there was Activision executive Bobby Kotick's comments regarding his support for implementing subscription fees to the Call of Duty multiplayer experience. Then he came back, claiming that he no longer supported that implementation.

As gamers, who should we believe? Unfortunately I can't answer that question for you. In fact, I'm about to throw some more information at you that will further that question.
"We will never charge for multiplayer for Call of Duty," said Eric Hirshberg, the newly appointed CEO of Activision Publishing, told Kotaku.
Notice the title of this article says "boxed copies". The title is phrased that way because there has been a lot of talk, starting in 2008 when Activision-Blizzard CEO Bobby Kotick mentioned that it was only natural that the massively popular Call of Duty series would become someone of an MMO.
Some gamers may not believe such a possibility, as the Call of Duty series has been the way it currently is for some time. However, when one considers the fact that they are currently teamed up with Blizzard (hence the name Activision-Blizzard), the developer of World of Warcraft, the concept of Call of Duty going in that direction becomes much more believable.
This direction for Activision's hit series seems to coincide Blizzard Entertainment's focus on "high-margin digital online content and further the brand as the leading action entertainment franchise in new geographies, new genres and with new digital business models."
At this point we have two CEO's, Bobby Kotick and Eric Hirshberg, behind the claim that Activision will
not impose a subscription fee on the Call of Duty series that we currently know. However, that does not mean, if the Call of Duty series indeed branches out to other genres, that they will not charge for online play in those fields.
