This thread explains how there have been rumor about a remake of the original Halo game and the speculations of release.
Microsoft's own internal Halo creators 343 Industries have decided to remake Halo: Combat Evolved, for those who have not played Halo. Combat Evolved was the very first part in the Halo series, it attracted the original audience for the title.
I appears that the new version of the original game will be running the same game engine as Halo: Reach making the game much smoother, Also since the game was made for the Original Xbox with no HD features we will see much improved graphics in the game which i believe everyone could agree that this could be brilliant. We could see Combat Evolved coming sooner than expected even before the squeal of Halo 3 that is predicted to be launched late 2012.
If rumors are true we could see the release of the new game fall upon the 10th anniversary of the original game which would then same the date to November, 2011 sooner than expected by anyone. Microsoft has previously ween interested in adopting an annual release model of the Halo title. This could stir up plenty of excitement for fans of the very first Halo.Giving another chance for Microsoft show off in another big event to publicize the Halo title and the Xbox itself and we all know how they like to show off.
I can not speak for everyone, but i would be very glad to see the return of this title as it has always one of the greats when it came to the Xbox it attracted many people to buy and stay with the console. For now there is not any information on the game it self or even a hint if the rumors are true, we will have to wait and see.

Wasn't Halo:Combat Evolved made by Bungie, so it wouldn't be 343 Industries "very own Halo: Combat Evolved" ?

there isn't going to be a squeal to halo 3 bungie are now with activision and Microsoft holds the rights to halo 3
