Apple can challenge Sony and Microsoft in console war.
This thread outlines further rumors that Apple could if they wanted to, enter the world of console gaming. There is not specific details coming from Apple at this time but further rumors have emerged since that from October.
EA's VP Patrick Soderlund seems to believe that only Apple could challenge Sony and Microsoft in the console war, this may be because of the success they have had over the past few years and the release of there revolutionary iMac's and the iPhone. According to Patrick soderlund anyone else but Apple would fail in this competative market.
With previous rumors of You must login or register to view this content. that hovered around late october time so have things moved on? Will Apple really make a move on the video game market? Well as they have already acquired deals with developers to create games for there other formats such as the iPad i don't see why they could not use this to there advantage. Although it would take Apple a while to get up to the standards of the Xbox or the Playstation and what they have to offer.
Patrick Soderlund was also asked what he thought would happen if apple decided to make a move on the video game market and if they could really compete, he had this to say:

So with apples quest to be the best in there market and there seemingly amazing tendency to create revolutionary products, i do not see why they could not compete even if they are years behind. It still seems that the rumors of his are flying around and have been outstanding since October is it a sign of things to come?
I don't know if I'd like this. I heard the rumor about two years ago and this is all I've heard since. I think Sony and Microsoft are doing fine and having another system would mean spending more money. Maybe Apple should try to make games first and see how that works out for them. That could show how there future in gaming could be.
I don't think Apple would do all that well in the Gaming market, for one they don't have half the experience Sony and Nintendo have and yes although they have the technology they tend to use their own platforms such as OS which aren't as popular as the rest.
Having that said if they ever did come to the gaming world their tendancy to overprice their products despite how good they may be will mean only the better off folk would splash out to get them. Apple are more of a fashion accesory, we buy them to say "yeah look at me with my awesomeness ipad" Don't get me wrong Apple are brilliant at what they do in regards to iphones and handheld devices like the Ipad but if i'm honest i think they would struggle in the gaming world. Sony has far better technology and Microsoft has the money, nintendo with the most experience and the game association prestige (aka Mario, Zelda, Donkey kong). Apple would seriously have to do something amazing to compete with these three, which is why Sega failed with the dreamcast.
Sony are working on holographic 3-D gaming and microsoft will be fully developing their "kinect" so Apple would have to revolutionse gaming with something never done before, and touch screen gaming isn't the way forward
