This thread outlines the amount of sales the new Gran Turismo game received in its first week of sales and managing to top the charts due to exclusive offers by Sony.

Japan has had massive sales of the new racing game Gran Turismo 5 shifting over 400,000 units in first week of sales giving a massive increase to the PS3 hardware sales toping th Japanese game charts. Although it is a decrease in sales from that of GT4 which in the first week of sales just over 635,000 units were sold. Although this decrease they say that the PS3 has only one third of the user base that GT5 has now.

In japan it has tough contest too as in the same week of release as GT5 there were many other games releasing too such as:

• Super Robot Taisen L
  
• Mario Sports Mix
  
• Spike's "high speed detective action" game Dangan-ronpa
  
• Power Pro Kun Pocket 13
  

One of the reasons GT5 was so popular in japan was as in the bundle offered with the game was a Blue, yes Blue PS3 boosting sales of the units. But even with the new colour PS3 the sales did not match that of the PSP as it sold 7,000 more units than the PS3 and this could be set to increase in the coming week with the release of the title Monster Hunter Freedom 3. So although though touch competition due to bundles and deals offered GT5 managed to sell more than was even predicted for first week sales.
