you can buy / win / trade a car with the paint on it or you can win paints in the karting events i think or just getting your garage to 30 then 50 its one of the prizes,
hope this helps mate when your on 29 cars and one car gift item retrieval thing save your game and back it up, if you dont get the colour you want after retrieving your car simply put the backed up save on ps3 and retry .
