Requirements
Jailbroken PS3
BlackBox FTP
FileZilla

STEPS
1.On the account that you want the avatar to appear on go on GT5 and take any picture of any car.
2.Quit game and load up BlackBox FTP and FileZilla
3.Go to this folder on your PS3:

dev_hdd0/game/GT5 GAME (eg. BCES00569)/USRDIR/photo
in that photo folder there should be all the photos you have taken on GT5. photo0001.jpg is the actual photo in full quality and photo0001_t.jpg is the thumbnail low res view.

4.Find a .jpg image off google or something that you want to be displayed as your avatar and save it to a place you know.
5.On FileZilla scroll down to the bottom where the picture that you just took will be.
5. Copy the filename of the thumbnail view of the picture (eg. photo0001_t.jpg).
6.Then change the name of your internet picture to the one you just copied. So your picture of the internet is now called photo0001_t.jpg
7. Drag the internet picture into the dev_hdd0/game/BCES00569/USRDIR/photo folder and it will ask you to overwrite, say yes!
8. Close BlackBox and then restart your PS3.
9. Go on GT5, locate the picture that you took and instead of it being the car it will be the pic off the internet!
10. Open it and make it your profile picture! DONE!

yeah good point, I did think about this when i realized that i put my PSN in full view of Sony clearly showing that I am on CFW.

Just out of curiosity are you still on CFW?

Funny you asked that, i just got an message from my mate who said it was blank for him! Technically it should work because you can take pics in gt5 and then upload them, it is not like there are only a selection of photos to choose as your avatar like on the psn friends list. Maybe the file has to be the exact same dimensions? I will test when i have access to my PS3!

Lol, I didn't know anybody had made a thread on this, I just got my new laptop so I've been trying to make this work again. I had originally put a pic from my PHOTO folder or whatever on there and just made another copy and had that be the thumbnail. That didn't work and only showed up blank for me.

For the pic to show up online, it has to be the same dimensions and you have to set it as your profile pic again so it will reupload to the server. The problem with this is that in a .dat file (at work, not near my ps3 atm) in some GT5 Install folder (maybe it's also in photo?), I think it logs the size of the pic's file and parameters. So the struggle is replacing the pic with something that takes the same file size and is the same resolution. If it isn't, the game just kinda freezes up while uploading and you have to manually restart your PS3.

Btw, if you try to add pics in there, it won't add them because they aren't logged in that .dat file. However, when you take pics in the future, as many fake pics as you tried loading on will show up blank and will freeze ur ps3 if you try handling with GT5, however feel free to delete them or modify them using FTP/File Manager (I prefer Comgenie's Awesome File Manager for this).
