Due to security issues of changing psn passwords through the web, Sony has temporarily turned off the PlayStation Network online sign-in services.

As one user from the PS Blog’s EU forum noted:

Web based Password reset system is NOT secure – is vulnerable to exploit using only email and DOB.

Soon later, Sony turned off the ability to change a PSN password through their official websites.

A Sony community team member on the forums confirmed by saying the following.

Hey Guys.

Please note that PSN sign in is currently unavailable for the following services:

PlayStation.com
PlayStation forums
PlayStation Blog
PC CAM
Qriocity.com
Music Unlimited via the web client
All PlayStation game title websites
Unfortunately this also means that those who are still trying to change their password password via Playstation.com or Qriocity.com will be unable to do so for the time being. This is due to essential maintenance and at present it is unclear how long this will take.

In the meantime you will still be able to sign into PSN via your PlayStation 3 and PSP devices to connect to game services and view Trophy/Friends information.

i never needed an email to restore my password, all i needed was to get online and change it from my ps3. i guess some have to use an email. besides that, sony is only doing this to make sure they dont get hacked to this extreme again, its a necessary precaution, and if people here spotted that flaw, imagine hackers ready to pounce....good post. good thing i already changed my password Happy
