The maximum amount is 7 Diamonds and 3 Blocks High at the MAX. Since the diamonds is 7 blocks High and WAY more then the max amount. It is obvious that you used InvEdit or TMI

I love how everybody in this thread is wrong as ****. If you actually de-compiled the game, you would know diamonds come in maximum 8 per chunk, so you can find as many as you want to ~24 if you are luckly and find the corner of each chunk

Where - is a normal piece of chunk, and x is diamond. Also, there isn't no space between them, I just made it like that so you can see them better. 

Most ive found is 8. 2x4. Althought one time i found the same as that but it had 1 like on top of 1 of the corners so it was 9. But never have i found any more than that
