You read that right, Hideo Kojima’s movies with gameplay bits tacked on are coming to Microsoft’s console, marking their non-Sony platform debut. Well at least for Metal Gear Solid 2, 3 and Peace Walker, which are the only ones confirmed. There’s no word on the first game in the series or whether either game will come in the re-released Substance and Subsistence versions.
Zone of the Enders and the Silent Hill games are also heading to the Xbox 360 and the PS3, with the PS3 version able to synchronize portable and home console saves (presumably for Peace Walker). The new releases will bring along HD assets, achievements and a slew of other improvements and features. There’s no word on a release date yet, but since most of us have already played through most of these and Konami is aiming mostly at the nostalgia dollarm we don’t mind a bit of a wait.
This is a move that will surely anger Playstation users, as the Metal Gear Solid brand has been a Playstation exclusive. Regardless of the 6-7 year gap since original launch, this will anger users of Sony's console, but finally bring joy to avid gamers using Microsoft's Xbox 360.
Should we be expecting a surge in old PS2 and PS1 game HD re-releases? Maybe so. The nostalgia of years past will finally return to gamers in HD glory, which is more than enough to convince game studios to re-release their old games again in high definition.
No MGS1? Damn.
But still, that's good news though, and it really doesn't matter whether or not MGS is an exclusive or not, it's a win-win for both sides. Kojima Pro. made a smart move by going on 360 as well as to get more MGS fans out there.
Now if they could do MG & MG2 (Old school ones), I'd be in heaven.
