Well I thought that for the most part all of the good footage from E3 had passed, but out of the corner of my eye I caught something that I couldn't help but bring to you all.

It was a trailer for Facebooks's upcoming game, SimSocial. SimSocial is actually a browser based game that is being currently hosted on the Sims3 website. The game hosted on that site will be discontinued on June 23rd. Soon after that a similar, yet improved, adaptation of the game will be coming to all Facebook users.

Now I do have to say that I am a bit negatively biased towards this game already, solely due to the way the developers portrayed it's use. In the introduction video it shows two women chatting on Facebook and talking about a date one of the girls had. Well the sad thing is the date occurred IN the SimSocial game. The developers have portrayed it as being just the same as real social interaction.

Facebook is already synonymous for it's social games, such as FarmVille, which seem to have an addictive trait to them. Many people view Facebook as a replacement for real social interaction. Some view that replacement of social interaction as a good thing, some view it as a bad thing.

As far as features, SimSocial looks to be very similar to Sims3, but it includes social features which allow you to interact with friends. There doesn't look anything very innovative about the game itself, but once the game hits Facebook we will see what it's like.

In my opinion, the way SimSocial was portrayed was a bit outlandish. There is very little need for more games that are meant to cause addiction and generate more revenue for Facebook. Like I stated earlier, I am a bit biased against this game, so I DO apologize if anything I have said about SimSocial and similar games has offended you.

What is your opinion on this game? What is your opinion on the whole Facebook Social Gaming scene in general? Do you believe that it is ok to replace real social interaction with a screen and a chat feature?

I remember when I first got sims 3 I could play for perhaps an hour or two a day but that was short-lived. About two weeks later I got so bored of it I un-installed it.
