Nintendo has always been an innovator in gaming technology. They tend to set their goals in gaming peripherals and a good group experience. While Nintendo is making very large headway on those fronts, Sony and Microsoft are making more headway in the multiplayer area. More and more games are being developed for online multiplayer use.

Many people are disappointed that Nintendo has not included more multiplayer and network features. There have been high hopes that the coming of the Wii U would bring the answer. But that answer is little closer than it was with the Wii.

In an interview with MTV, Shigeru Miyamoto, a long time Nintendo designer, stated:

But, understanding that the types of experiences our consumers like to play do often contain elements to them that can be improved or may even require an online connection and also knowing that the system is going to have a browser I think suggests that obviously internet and internet connectivity is going to be very important for the system."

Basically, from his statement, I have little hopes for any real improvement in the multiplayer capabilities this time around from Nintendo. Obviously Nintendo has hit some sort of disconnect if they think that simple internet connection and a web browser are what we're looking for. The Wii had that and it was still painfully outdated.

It is implied in the interview that there will be the capability for you to browse your friends list to see who's online, but there is no information pertaining to whether or not they will be putting the friend code feature on the shelf or not. For the sake of everyone involved I pray to (Insert god of your choice here) that Nintendo tosses the friend code system out the window.

So what are your opinions? Would you be more likely to buy Nintendo if they increased the capabilities of their multiplayer system? Will the lack thereof stop you from buying the Wii U? Will you scratch your eyes out with a fork if the friend code system returns (I know I will)

essentially they're saying we know you want a friends list and a full blown multiplayer system, but we don't care, because we all know gamers are lonely nerds who live in their mother's basements...right? the mentality of "we make it, so you get what you get" as opposed to "we'll make it our way, but we'll be open to ideas from you" really irks me, and if the Wii U doesn't have some sort of friends list type function I'll probably put off buying one indefinitely...and even consider buying used.

that's why i've never really jumped the gun for a Wii. I've always felt so isolated when it comes to online interactions :\

No worries :y:. And there's nothing to add to a discussion with nothing to discuss.

So that's not Nintendo's plan. Well they are not going anywhere then.... I for see Nintendo actually going under in the next couple of years if this wiiiuuuuu thing is a complete failure.
