Battlefield 3 - Spec Ops

With Modern Warfare 3 upcoming and competing with Battlefield 3 a surprising bit of information has been announced:
Battlefield 3 will have a spec ops game mode.
There is in total 10 maps / missions in Spec ops mode and it will handle on 2 players (Similar to Mw3)
It will be playable online and offline giving you and there is no news about if it will be available through Solo play also.
Modern Warfare 3 is improving their spec ops game mode with rank up systems, Unlocks etc, just like the multiplayer.
Battlefield 3 will bring its own unique twist to the "Spec ops" game mode.
Is this just to add more competition to Modern Warfare 3? I think so
