Well not ALL streaming media. The bill that is in the works, Senate bill S.978, would change the way copyright laws for media streamed on the internet are enforced. It would make it illegal for anyone to post media that is copyrighted without the express written consent of the owner.

Now what this means for us, is that anything from posting Call of Duty montages, to the music we use on them, would now be illegal. People who add lyrics to songs on Youtube would now be fined or sent to jail for doing so.

The other part of this bill that has people up in arms is the division of it that would make embedding copyrighted media on an unauthorized website, such as NGU, illegal.

The punishment for breaking the rules of this new bill would include up to 5 years in prison for anyone who posts more that 10 unauthorized works in a 180 day period.

While I do not support this bill, I do see why it is trying to be passed. The amount of copyright infringement that happens is astonishing. Companies lose billions a year from the use and sharing of pirated material.

Now this would have no direct effect on downloading anything from a torrent or file sharing site. You would still be able to do these things. This ONLY affects streaming media such as Youtube, Google Video, or any other streaming media, such as music.

So what do you think about this? Do you think it could get passed? If it does get passed would you still post videos or other material containing copyrighted works?

On the up side Youtube would be free of all those annoying covers on songs by faggotd who suck ass, but Youtube would die because like 99% of videos use copyrighted songs and crap.

I would cry. The reason that I stream some shows/events is because I cannot view it at home (channel is no longer available to my provider, TV is in use, Not at home, etc).

But when it comes to PPVs (Sports fans, you know what I'm talking about), the consumers get overcharged up the ass. Lower the price a bit and I'm sure you'll see a significant decrease in the amount of streamers. I don't stream all the time, but I don't have enough money to fork over for an event that MIGHT not even be worth the price I payed all the time.

you should make some more specifics like that this only effects the US. that the streaming and videos of video games would be taken down if the actual game owner asks for it to be taken down and continuation would lead to a fine. also that if passed, the video game company can give out phoney licences to uploaders, im pretty sure it won't get passed but if it does Capcom for example would give free uploading passes to anyone who applies because all their tournaments and such are uploaded to youtube. also Activision would do the same because they give you a theatre feature in black ops to upload your stuff, so they would give out licences to your accounts on their website.

Video game creators would add it into their terms of service that you are allowed to do this with their content. Noch has said this, and other companies would as well, because it's a huge form of advertising for them.
