Many people prefer Xbox over PS3 simply because it is layed out better and is more pleasing to the eye. In an attempt to counteract this, Sony seems to be in the testing stages of a new layout for their PSN Store.
You must login or register to view this content. reports to have received information from several testers that Sony is quietly testing the layout. Why it is being kept so under wraps is yet to be known.
However, what is known, is that the PSN store will be moving further from its current, text based, visual interface and will be steering towards an image based one. This is said to be much like the current look and style of the Xbox interface. One of the testers commented:

When I go browsing for DLC, I like to be offered the DLC. Not be hit with an offer to buy the game. When I go browsing for themes, I like to be offered themes and not the game it's based on. The Marketplace sections are fairly redundant when you go looking for something, and it tries to sell you the game. Pointless to keep offering you the exact same stuff regardless of what sub-section you went looking in. I'd have thought for £40 a year, they'd also remove the ads on the Dash. God help everyone that paid for Kinect having to put up with You must login or register to view this content..
At least with the PS3 store, if I go looking for addons, I get addons. Free, organised nicely, no shit adverts outside the store. It's great.

agreed lol, i dnt buy much off the store tbh but when going on for demos and stuff u want it to be easy to navigate around so ye a redesign is needed.
still think other stuff could be implemented before the store being redesigned
