Post: How to get a domain for your server [FREE] (Not NOIP Method)

(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}); Not sure if there has been a tutorial on this so if there is then please quote me :p.

This tutorial will hopefully teach you how to get people to use a domain rather than an IP to connect to your server.

This is totally free but has paid features in it in case you'd like better things :mad:

Lets get started.

What you will need:
1. A functioning brain.
2. A domain (co.cc, .com, .net) ect
3. A minecraft server

[multipage=IP ]

First of all figure out what kind of IP you have, if you bought a minecraft server then you'll most defiantly have a static IP (always same). If you host on your own network 9/10 you have a dynamic IP so this is mostly for you.

[multipage=Website (custom DNS)]

What this site does is let you point domains to an IP and you can use it's program to update your dynamic IP to the domain you picked on the site. You may have heard of these sites such as dyndns and noip ect.

Site:
    https://www.dnsdynamic.org
Sign up for free on the site and then login.

Now click on manage:

You must login or register to view this content.

Then click on add:

You must login or register to view this content.

As you can see I have my own domain added there but you wont have that one, you can choose between other domains there if you don't have a domain yourself.

If you don't have a domain then choose from the ones there and follow the last step it's pretty simple.

[multipage=Own Domain]

Now if you own full access to a co.cc (free alternative) or a paid .com .co ect. Then this step is for you.

First click on manage then transfer a domain. You will be bought to this page:

You must login or register to view this content.

As you can see I have another domain I will be adding so put yours in where I've put mine, then press submit.

Now the support team should email you soon (they're great support), they'll give you nameservers to put into your domain so it points to their server and then they'll probably ask if you want it only for yourself to use or allow others to. I suggest allow others since it doesn't hurt you..

Now once they've got back to you then you can add to your domain. Follow the steps before to see how and you'll end up getting something like

survival.yourdomain.com
s.yourdomain.com
c.yourdomain.com
They're just a small amount you could choose from.

[multipage=Updating the domain ]

If you have a dynamic IP then you will need to download a program to update the domains IP when yours changes. It's very low intense program that runs in the background. Get it from here and read that page:

    https://www.dnsdynamic.org/WinDNSdynamic.php
[multipage=.com domains/conclusion ]

If you would not like to use co.cc then contact me and I can provide you with a paid domain for very cheap. You can choose from over 50 TLDs.

As always check out my server :p, it's been running strong for over a year now and it's gotten well over 6000 visitors.

Did you not get my whole thread? This is for dynamic IP, this site offers the service for free as well as transferring the domain. It allows people with a dynamic IP to host a minecraft or any sort of server easily.
