Jay Freeman, also known as Saurik, creator of Cydia, which is the engine behind every jailbroken iDevice, has today filed a lawsuit to claim ownership of Cydia.com
Saurik seems to have been extremely slow in registering/claiming this domain, just like Apple, who were slow to claim the "iPhone4.com" domain, earlier this year.
Saurik has filed a lawsuit to try and win access to the valued domain. Unlike Apple, who just didn’t pre-register the domains, Cydia was already registered six years before Cydia was even created, so the registrar would have had no clue of the future value of the domain.
Saurik is most likely trying to get control of the domain because of the fact it is named after the famed jailbreak store - a user would be able to visit the homepage of Cydia by going to Cydia.com instead of cydia.saurik.com, where Cydia is currently situated.
Currently, Cydia.com is down, due to hack attacks. It usually operates as an Apple forum, indicating that the domain owner has sought to gain from the work of Saurik and Cydia, of which this is reflected in the lawsuit.
Whether Saurik is successful in his bid to take over the domain is unknown, as it could take months if the owner of the domain does not comply. On the other hand it could take a matter of days if the owner agrees and hands the domain over.
