How to do this:

1. First, borrow a friends car. Delete GT5 game data(1.10 takes 5 mins to delete), it’s the first folder in the Game tab in the XMB
2. Start GT5, refuse to download the patches
3. You should own the borrowed car BUT select a different car in your garage
4. Install patches and enjoy! ( could take upto 30mins depending on connection)
Pros of this glitch:
1. The original owner keeps the car and you get a copy of it
2. There’s no types of trade caps

You can duplicate a car without deleting that massive file..

Never mind. I misunderstood it. I thought they meant a car that was traded, not borrowed from the online garage.

This works like a treat!

I dusted off the old noisy phat PS3 and put the 1.05 update on it (to make the process quicker), then copied my save over and back again.

I've got virtually every car in the game on my save and hope to transfer all the Red Bull X2010 colour variants too with this method (sad yes I know!)
