You know something is nearer when there is a teaser, but in this case, an unintentional one.

An excited EA employee from the UK tweeted on his personal twitter account an image of the upcoming Battlefield 3 beta seems to be running on Xbox 360.

Probably due to his action, his Twitter account has since been removed, but the yfrog account, which stores images mostly for Twitter, still has the picture and comments.

This could suggest that the anticipated beta has been approved by Microsoft and awaiting launch. The Xbox 360 console in the leaked image does not appear to be a development kit of some sort.
