Well it seems as if Microsoft has revealed some technical errors made on behalf of the corporation. Though always possessing a zero tolerance policy for cheating, modding, and piracy, Microsoft admits some accidental console bans were given out. On the official Xbox blog, Stephen Toulouse (Xbox Live policy and enforcement team head) stated that numerous bans are being overturned upon further review.

"We're still conducting our review but the cause appears to be a software issue, not an error on the part of the enforcement team's normal actions," Toulouse said. "It's very specific and occurred between August 29 and September 9, affecting a very small percentage of users."

Toulouse ensures that over the next few days proper action will be taken in order to reverse what all has been done.

If you happen to be one of these individuals who was wrongfully banned, just hold tight and be patient! Microsoft promises to review all the bans within the above time range to find the innocent victims. Nevetheless, as compensation for their actions, Microsoft will grant these users free 3 months of Xbox Gold service, and also add an additional 1200 Microsoft Points to their account.

The technology used to ban consoles which are believed to be ‘tampered’ has been fixed since the technical error. Toulouse assures that occurrences as such will not happen again in the future.
