Throughout this thread/guide, I will be giving a descriptive overview in regards to succeeding overall in Halo: Reach. Forms of this success are the winning of games and playing to your fullest extent. This guide is certainly ideal for players of any skill; reading through this continually growing guide may improve and/or allow development of new skills. Content-wise, I will explaining a wide range of traits that will come useful throughout game play. Due to the fact that I have played the Halo franchise for approximately 7 years, I have developed skills that I can advise to other players. I have also been playing Halo: Reach since the release of the game, allowing me to have a good knowledge of game-based strategies and in-general knowledge in regards to Halo: Reach.
Without further ado, I present you my guide that will be edited over time which will hopefully increase the depth of my guide, increasing the quality of it.
#1 Halo is a mental game.
I cannot urge this enough. If you get frustrated/mad over the game, it will severely affect your performance. This is the reason as to why you need to sustain a calm mental state of mind while playing. Once you die or something happens to your inconvenience, accept that it has happened and focus more on fixing the negative occurrence. As a matter of fact, that moment of anxiety can be converted to something beneficial to your team if you apply the effort. For example, once you die in comparison to shouting or blaming your death on something, provide a "call out" (a colloquial term used to indicate something via talking) to your team mates in terms of where the enemies/enemy is/are and what they're doing. If you continue to yell and get frustrated when playing your performance will suffer. Remember, the most difficult player you have to compete against is yourself.
#2 Communication is key.
In order to overcome your opponents, communication is required. Continually indicate where the enemies are, where you are and what you and the enemy team are doing. This will create a sense of knowing and will allow your team mates to act in accordance. Let's say that you die defending your objective from being captured. The best thing to do in this situation would be to state "<amount of enemies> at <objective> and <any power weapons (e.g. Sniper) they have possession of." An example of this, "2 at flag, one of them has Rockets." This will indefinitely be of use to at least one player on your team, perhaps changing the situation of them capturing the objective to a counter-cap and therefore the winning of the game. One small tip in regards to this, be sure to summarize what you're trying to imply. In consideration that your team mates will not have a lot of time to act, it's logical that you speak quickly so they may act quickly.
#3 Play with intelligent people.
In order to make yourself a better player, play with people that are intelligent in terms of the game. In addition to this, play with people that possess microphones. As explained in tip #2, communication is vital to success. I can guarantee you that you have a greater chance of succeeding when you play with people that you can communicate with and know what they're doing as opposed to searching/playing by yourself. The more that you play together, the more that you will be accustomed to one and another's game-styles, allowing you to act in accordance. I personally was in a competitive gaming team for Halo 3, we all were accustomed to each other's game-styles and were able to create a routine. In conclusion, play with people that are good at the game. Playing solo isn't a good idea, you will lack many vital factors (such as communication) and will not succeed nearly as much as when you're playing with good people that you know.
#4 Practice makes perfect.
You may have heard this line over and over, although it's absolutely without a doubt true. The more that you play, the more you will re-evaluate certain situations and improve how you play. Every professional player was once a "noob", however through practice they have become the good player that they are today. It's a simple concept. The more that you work with at your accuracy with your D.M.R via playing, the more that it will improve. This tip in particular is fairly straight-forward, but it is productive and undeniably a great factor in succeeding.
#5 Warm-up prior to playing.
You may notice that the first time you play within a gaming session, your accuracy and overall gameplay will not be at its greatest extent. In order to solve this, a mere quick warm-up is required to fix this. I personally find that playing a quick game of something along the lines of Team Slayer or Rumble Pit is a good warm-up before moving onward to a playlist that is considered more difficult (e.g. M.L.G.). As again with the previous tip (#4), this is a simple yet effective concept that will be of assistance. Note that the difference between your first and second game of the day/session is fairly significant.
That's all of my guide as of this moment, however I will be sure to update it frequently with more tips or the modification of current ones. For the record, I feel that the publishing of this thread would be better than completing it all together which would take a very long time, hence why there are only 5 tips. I am also going to include an update log and simultaneously post when I have updated my guide so that members are aware when more content has been added to it. I intend that this thread is useful to some members on the site.
