Earlier today, reports from a few unknown sources have revealed rumoured features of the upcoming iPhone 5. They were released by the tech website iLounge, they claim their sources are inside Apple and were pretty close to Jobs. The next iPhone will reportedly have a bigger 4in screen as part of a major redesign, a move that had been resisted by late Apple CEO Steve Jobs. Another rumour is the body will be square-edged rather than rounded and it will have a super-fast 4G aerial. The phone body itself is likely to be just 8mm longer and to house a 10 megapixel camera.

The website said: "Our source says that the next-generation iPhone will not look like the teardrop-shaped version that was widely rumoured for release in 2011."

They also stated: "It is on track to be introduced in summer of 2012, and is still in the engineering phase, not early production. We suspect that poor battery life doomed the prior prototype version."

Britain does not currently have a 4G network, but the new protocol could begin to be put into place by next year - when the phone is expected to be released - providing much faster mobile broadband.

Personal view

I just recently bought the iPhone 4S, so this makes me rather irritated! From the information that was rumoured here, it doesn't seem to have many more major features than the 4S. Obviously it has a different design and a better camera, but nothing major, although, I am almost certain that there is more to be released, this information, I am looking forward to and hopefully it will make the iPhone worth the money it will be.

Yet another iphone

Ok let me clear this up right here apple will NOT go back to a metal backed iphone... wont happen. so first picture is out... second.. the second picture is just a slimmed version of the iphone 4... which IMO will be a dumb decision that i do NOT see them making, if you have your own iphone 4 or iphone 4S like i do then you know how delicate the phones are... back when i had a 3g i dropped it on carpet and got a hair line crack in the screen.. now when i got my iphone 4 i threw it and completely destroyed it... (REPLACED BY APPLE FREE OF CHARGE LMFAO) now that i have my iphone 4S i take care of it like its my left hand.. i like the thickness of the phone.. i dont want it to be any smaller ill break it easily in my pocket while working. forget about it.

I'm in two minds wether to get a iphone. But depending on release of iphone 5 I may have to think about it. The second image looks pretty slick also.

Yeah the 2nd picture seems nice if they make it a little bigger but thinner I'd love to go and get one

Instead of calling it the iPhone 5 what they actually meant to call it was the iphone 2.3g since every new iphone that comes out there is little to no difference at all with them, Apple are basically milking people dry of their money by adding 1 or two new features to the software and nothing major at all to the hardware, and the new features you get with the software you can most likely get by upgrading the software of your older iphones.

i think people need to wake up and smell the coffee that most companies are doing this to make easy money, i'm not just saying this is soley Apples fault too as i love sony erriccsons and what did they do a few months after releasing the NEO and ARC....you guess it, enter Arc "s" and neo "n" which had very little hardware improvements but cost more than the originals and making your original look tacky and old...same with samsung, got the galaxy S then galaxy SII arrives a couple of months down the line. Its all BS to me. /rant

They'll leak it in the same way they do every year....somebody will find it in a bar after an apple technician 'accidentally' left it in the bathroom.
