I started it and I just feel so overwhelmed by all of the weapons, races, armor, towns, people, items, etc.. I think I want to be a mage; it sounds pretty fun. Can anyone give me the lowdown on what I should be looking for/accomplishing through my first few hours of the game?

Well for starters, if your going to be a mage, I suggest the high elf. Personal opinion but they have the best bonuses for destroying with magic. Secondly, when you get to these three stones (you will understand what I mean when you get there) pick the mage one. From there on really its all your call I mean, its a total RPG and you make your character what you want it to be easily.
