The playstation network, a service you all know and love is coming to its end.

On February 8, 2012 Sony will take the final step to unifying their online services by introducing it’s users to the Sony Entertainment Network, or SEN for short.

The SEN will take place of the PSN, the online gaming service that Sony launched alongside their PlayStation 3 on November 11, 2006. This name change is Sony’s way of getting closer to their goal of

Don't worry everyone, you will still be able to play online, this change is merely a name change! You aren't required to change your ID or password, you will not be affected.

The PS3 and Vita will receive a System Software Update that will introduce a new TOS (Terms of Service) before users can gain access to the Sony Entertainment Network.

Sony is currently in the process of sending out e-mails to all PSN users that will alert them of this new change. Here is an example given in the source.

personal opinion

If this rumour is definitely going to happen, I have nothing against it. The name doesn't change anything for us, everything will still be the same and to be honest I will keep using the name PSN because I'm used to it. Sony are just trying to "establishing a global comprehensive network platform" which is honestly fine with me.

thanks for reading, sorry for the sort of mis-leading title!

I think Sony has been trying to do something like this for some time now. Looks like they've finally pulled it off.

Meh, if you think about it, they're both just as easy to say. The only difference is that we're used to one, and not to the other. Before long "SEN" will seem perfectly normal. Besides, it's not the name of the service that's important... it's the content. So long as the name isn't absurd, which it isn't by any means, it's actually pretty professional and discrete, there really is no problem.

Like everyone has said... it'll be known as PSN for quite some time now anyway. It'll take some real integration between all of Sony's services, and possibly the next generation, to get people to start referring to PSN as the Sony Entertainment Network.

Do a barrel roll!
I'm not massively upset, but there was something quite enjoyable about the letters "PSN". Goodbye!

To be honest, I'm in favor of this. Yes, PlayStation Network was a cool name, and identified it as something unique to PlayStation But that's not Sony's goal; Sony wants to tie all of their services together, which is becoming a big trend in the business world. While the name might not be as cool, it's the first step in what might be a big improvement to the online PlayStation experience. While it seems kind of silly at the present, I think we'll see more of Sony's services linked to the PlayStation.

That'll give PlayStation gamers more incentive to go out and buy other Sony products, instead of having people like me who has a PS3, an iMac, an iPhone 4, and a Samsung TV. If they link everything together in all their products, and make things work seamlessly together, people won't be a Sony gamer, or a Sony TV fan, or a Vaio-lover; They'll be a Sony consumer. Someone who, like many people do with Microsoft and Apple, buys all of their products from one company.

This, of course, is only possible if they can create a computer that can compete with the likes of Apple and Microsoft, and if they can create a phone that really resonates with consumers.

I know the second part was not aimed at me I just thought I would throw out my opinion on that aswell. What I was trying to say was it's got people into a habbit of saying PSN so it was quite stupid but considering how you just put I see what you mean! I know I said it's stupid to change it 5/6 years down the line but that was just due to the fact its been something so long.

Although it doesn't bother me that it has changed or will change or whatever has gone on. SEN is pretty much saying the same thing. So it's all good in my eyes. I hope you see where I am coming from, but if not it's all good Happy
