The listings on download service Origin only seem to have been up for a few minutes but that was more than enough time for everyone to take note, with website XBIGY Games taking the screenshots above - which finally prove that Crysis 3 is on the way.

The listings don't offer any details or release dates and only mention Xbox 360 and PC versions, but there's no reason to assume that the game isn't also on PlayStation 3.

Another entry in the first person shooter series has been hinted at for months now, with the most convincing rumour so far providing evidence that publisher EA and German developer Crytek are working together on some sort of new project.

A rather less subtle clue arrived just hours before the leak we are talking about nowe, with Swedish magazine Game Reactor promoting an exclusive reveal of a 'secret sequel' and adorning its front cover with an image of what seems to be a dangerously overgrown New York City and the familiar pattern of the series' signature nanosuit.

Crytek has never made any secret of the fact that it wants to do another game, but neither they nor EA has gone as far as formally announcing it. Although the first Crysis title is best known for its impossible-to-match PC requirements the recent Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 conversion proved just as popular as the console-led Crysis 2 from last year.

The end of that game's story seemed to signal the defeat of the alien Ceph invaders, so the plot of a third game is hard to guess. From the image on Origin you can just make out a nanonsuit wearer wielding a high tech bow and arrow, but what exactly that implies will have to wait until the official announcement.

I played the multiplayer demo of Crysis 2 and it wasn't exactly my kind of game, but I am willing to give Crysis 3 a go if there is a demo. I might even see if my PC can handle it, it plays BF3 on ultra settings so I can't see why not. Thanks Mudkip and Mr. Kane for the information.
