Ubisoft Sued By Man Claiming To Have Thought Up Assassin's Creed First

Ubisoft has come under fire today in the form of legal action pursued by John Beiswenger.

You must login or register to view this content.

Beiswenger, writer of the novel Link, claims Ubisoft had "directly copied" his book's story, which consists of a system that is able to read ancestral memories, which Assassin's Creed also contains. However, this is where the lawsuit makes no sense - he is basing all the legal action on that single point. That is not directly copying, as Assassin's Creed features over a hundred other features which make it completely unique from Beiswenger's novel.

I do not believe that Beiswenger will win this lawsuit, not only because he is up against such a large company but also because his case holds virtually no ground. The case is still ongoing, and we'll keep you all updated on it.

In Flames Much?
He won't win.
Unless it copied directly the plot lines one story element is not enough to win with. Has to be loads more elements directly copied from the book.

Yeah, like RTS said, there is no way this guy will win Happy Even if he did, Ubisoft has plenty
of money to give away in a situation like this :p

You never know what might happen. He might win the case if he has solid evidence that they did take his idea from his story. But if the idea was too general then he'll most probably lose the case.

Richard.
Won't be active..
It's been nearly 5 years, why this long to react? Doubt he will win though.
