The old school, side scrolling classic that is the Super Mario series has another game to add to its lineup, which will be released this August for Nintendo's newest 3D handset.
The italian plumber has once again taken to running through several levels of mildly-octane action and trying to rescue Peach who once again has ended up in the clutches of Bowser. Satoru Iwata, president of Nintendo, announced the release of the game for Nintendo's handheld 3DS console yesterday. It is a sequel to 2006's
New Super Mario Bros. and 2009's
New Super Mario Bros. Wii.
The game was announced during a presentation held in Japan by Iwata, with confirmation about the release date coming in the form of a tweet by @NintendoAmerica:

This could mean that the game will launch in both North America and Japan at similar times, or perhaps even on the same day. No EU release date has yet been mentioned, however.
According to several images shown, the game will feature the Power Leaf power-up from Super Mario Bros. 3 which will allow Raccoon-Tailed Marios to fly:
