Earlier today Sony Santa Monica, the studio behind the God of War series, revealed GOW: Ascension's multiplayer mode. As well as some awesome and bloody gameplay.

Without a doubt, multiplayer might make some people wary of faultiness within the God of War series, but
so far it sounds like Santa Monica has got it under control. Game director Todd Papy, told us this about the multiplayer portion of the game:

God of War: Ascension's multiplayer modes won't feature Kratos, but rather nameless characters that players will opt to customize as they see fit. Combatants can pledge allegiance to one of four gods -- Zeus, Poseidon, Hades and Ares -- and will receive special powers, bonuses, strengths and weaknesses as a result. Armor and weapons can be customized, equipped and strengthened, and there will be full experience, upgrading and leveling systems, too, though Papy and his team didn't explain how all of that would work.

Undoubtedly, multiplayer in a God of War game is really risky, but ambitious nevertheless. It is also worth noting that Papy said that the game is a long way from being completed. The studio still has to decide on the game modes that will be included in the game and such. Also, they are planning to include roughly seven maps at the moment. (five large and two small) From the look of the gameplay I watched, it seems that multiplayer will be objective based with teams fighting towards a goal, instead of solely killing one another.

Catch some images of multiplayer action down below in the spoiler:

Watch the bloody mayhem in action and try not to squirm:

As far as single player goes, God of War fans can breathe easy knowing that Kratos is indeed in the game,
and also that the game isn't going to be solely multiplayer. The single player mode will still be the focal point of the game. Some miscellaneous details that have been heard so far is that the game will be using the same, but improved engine from God of War III. New material, shading, textures, lighting and other things have already been improved throughout the engine.

For those curious about the plot of the game, Papy has said that it will show a more human side of Kratos. Expect to see Kratos with less buff too. Papy also stated that it will be different than the prequel that was on the PSP because it will be touching more on the ambitions and things Kratos wants out of life. As a side note as well, the story takes place six months after Kratos' family is slain and he already made the deal with Ares, so it is confirmed that he will have the Blades of Chaos.

So, I want to hear your opinions on this. Do you think multiplayer will work for a God of War game? Or is it deterring you from maybe purchasing this game?

Completely agreed. I never thought MP would work in this game, but it looks like a ton of fun.
