A Paris Company known as Vivendi, the same company that owns a majority of AB(Activision Blizzard), that specializes in music and television is in major debt. As of right now, they are nearing $15.5 billion of debt, therefore they are relieving some assets. They own 60% of AB, which is worth about 2/3 of their current debt. According to Reuters, they have begun looking for potential buyers, some rumored names being Microsoft, Tencent (chinese), and Time Warner. From the same sources, it has been said that if no buyer shows, they will sell the stock into the market, meaning only a handful of smaller stock holders would have control.
What implications could this have? Activision is known for several big series, the current one being Call of Duty. More importantly, Blizzard is in possession of Diablo, WoW, and Starcraft.
Others attribute this to the theories that we are approaching another video game crash. Being that a huge producer has become unstable.
As of right now, a lot of what's going to occur is speculation, but one thing is guaranteed. A company with a credit rating of BBB, the second lowest investment grade, in $15.7 billion will need to relieve the debt one way or another, and with $10 billion accessible, it is likely something will happen.
