DICE accompanied the price drop with this message on the Facebook post: “Battlefield 3 is now $39.99 only in North America. If you’ve been sitting on the fence, this is the perfect time to join our 15 million strong community and experience DICE’s award-winning shooter for yourself.”

In other news, the server maintenance was scheduled to take place on PS3, Xbox 360 and PC on August 7th from 05:00 GMT until 07:00 GMT. The update was published via a banner on the official Battlefield 3 You must login or register to view this content.. At the time of writing, the maintenance was in progress.
It is possible that the update is preparing the servers for a new content drop for Premium subscribers, however DICE has not officially stated what the down-time is in aid of.
