Join his game, have him quit or play the game for as much coins as possible (friend looses on purpose) and you get the coins, maybe return the favor by getting on a dummy account and helping him out!

As far as I know there is no way to be banned or patched as it could just be that your friend just sucks or has bad connection so getting coins is never hard!
