(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({});The Wii U is set to be Nintendo's most expensive console. The Nintendo 3DS was a massive loss when they sold it below cost. It has been confirmed today that the Wii U and other devices will be sold at a loss.
During a press conference in Osaka Nintendo has explained their reasoning for this, "Manufacturing costs are expensive, and we priced the machine at a level customers would accept. It’s important for us to develop a healthy business next fiscal year by combining sales of hardware and software."
The Wii U will be available in a basic white version for $299.99. Included with this is the GamePad and 8GB of storage, and no more accessories. The Deluxe version is being sold at $349.99. This comes with a GamePad, 32GB of storage, a copy of Nintendo Land, accessories for the console and a controller.
Nintendo, for the first time has announced their sales target of selling 5.5 million Wii U consoles. As well as 24 million units of software by March 31, 2013.
