(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({});Competitive gaming is growing in popularity amongst the Call of Duty community. Black Ops 2 launched with a number of features to enhance the competitive gaming experience.
NextGenUpdate had the exclusive opportunity to interview a seasoned Call of Duty competitive gamer, David (div) Adams. David is one of our very own vBookie Moderators, and has serious experience with Gamebattles. We sat down to chat with him about Treyarch’s implementations to Black Ops 2 for competitive gaming, and how they are supporting this large community.
David: Hi Storm! Well, to keep this part short and sweet, I’m a 19 year old average guy. I currently attend college in my hometown Glasgow studying Higher Computer Technical Support. I still live with my parents as of now but that's the way I like it until I can progress enough in life to move on from that.
NGU: So, what got you started in the competitive Call of Duty scene?
David: Well back in around mid-2009 when Call Of Duty: World at War came along, I started off as a typical public player. Not too long into it I was told about Gamebattles. When I was told about this it sounded good. It sounded like more fun and better competition going on although I wasn’t nearly as good as other players, but I had to start somewhere! To sum it up I was told about a website, gained interest and then progressed a lot, and I mean a lot.
NGU: You progressed to a Gamebattles referee, and then reached the rank of an arena admin, correct?
David: Yes, that's correct. It meant that I was joining a support team inside of the world largest competitive gaming website. I thrived and was a bit nervous at the same time, which was only natural. The first role (referee) Consisted of me utilizing a control panel to check was matches need live support actually inside the game. This then required me to go into the acutely person(s) match and listen to them and their problems. I would solve them in an efficient and timely manner. After it was solved it was down to me to submit referee ticket via the arena control panel for the admins to then make the final choice on the game, and obviously they would take my word for it providing the team(s) had sufficient proof to back it up.
The second role (admin) was a much harder job when I was told I was promoted to admin I was literally buzzing. Little did I know it actually required a lot of time, a lot of thinking and hard decision making. I would follow up on users that would report game cheaters. Offences would range from free wins to lag switching. Making calls on these things where very had and I did go through a lot of staff training and shadowing. I was then promoted to ban admin (senior) which consisted of manual banning.
NGU: You must have been excited when you were promoted! In regards to Black Ops 2, what do you think about the new e-sports features Treyarch has implemented, and do you think it will be a success amongst the competitive community?
David: Black Ops 2 is something else, in my opinion. I mean it’s a whole new world in the competitive scene. The features that you can do to customize the in game settings are unreal; there is so many. For instance, the ‘CODcasting’ feature is going to be a huge success at events. Things like the new create a class system where you can choose what you want to use. For example, the bomb carrier can limit his grenades and stuns in exchange for more perks to get to the bomb planted with a better chance of surviving.
Also, what I really like about it is that you can't change team in game you must pick your team in the match lobby. This is a good as it restricts players on Gamebattles from cheating, where they would switch teams to see where the other team are and gain the advantage. Another point about these new features are the sensitivity, they bumped the maximum option up to 14 this gives competitive gamers who play on a lower sensitivity more of a chance to tweak around with it and find the one that is just right for their style of play.
NGU: That's a very good point. Are there any new competitive features you would like to see added in future Call of Duty titles?\
David: For future features, I would really like to see a voice assist added. Let me explain: Say you call out to me ‘there is an enemy over by A bomb site,” and I go and pick up the kill on A bomb site it would give me an assist for doing so. As of now, I can’t really imagine what features will come next.
NGU: Have you attended any gaming events or competitions?
David: I have not, but I plan on doing so. I was on the verge of attending EGL8 in Manchester but a few things lead to it not happening. That fell apart, but at the moment I am currently working my way toward making my own team so that I can make sure nothing goes wrong. Then I will be able to attend. The event I hope to attend is EGL9 as of now there has been no location details released for this event.
NGU: That sounds exciting! So, what is your favourite class set-up in Black Ops 2 for playing competitively?
David: Favourite has to be M8A1 select fire with red dot sight, Lightweight, Toughness, Dead silence and Dexterity 2 concussions and a semtex grenade.
NGU: I think I might give that set-up a try! Finally, what games do you enjoy in your leisure time, and what games do you have fond memories of playing in your younger years?
David: Brilliant question, this one! I loved and still do love the GTA series. I started back on GTA: London on the PS1. I have played all the GTA's on consoles since then. This has to be the one that gives me the best memories! I also love to play the FIFA series and have done since PS1. Also, it’s worth mentioning the Getaway series. As you can tell I love shooting games and also a bit of FIFA!
NGU: That's awesome. Thanks for your time today, David!
David: No problem Storm, thanks for having me!

I am active on GB..have been since W@W. Way to many ip flooders and people who make fake proof. CMRS is a joke and the most ridiculous thing they've added to GB. The most played game mode for COD is SND and it's played terribly wrong..no objective play whatsoever and everyone sits in corners holding L1 instead of strategically playing and showing true skill..it just depends now on who you play..the old GB players still play it aggressive and tactical and it seems that the new players tend to corner camp more often..but whatever it takes to win I suppose.
