(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}); Crytek throw at us another modern military shooter , not sure if it classes as that or a sci fi military shooter.
It another shooter , so what makes this one special ?
The answer It not a straight clone of call of duty does take some of the call of duty formula and throws in some fresh DNA.
Crysis 1 was known as being a powerhouse in terms of looks , also a power ache for many PC builds. Crysis 2 was toned down in order to get more sales and to run on consoles. No lie that consoles did limit what Crysis 2 could do. It was sort of linear sand boxy in places but still very linear. The result of being linear was bit more focus on the story but at times the story was lacking.
I enjoyed playing Crysis 2 single player okay it did have some generic shooter elements but it was a small bit of fresh air.
You're noticed not talked about Crysis 1 at all why because I never played it but from all accounts great gameplay lacking story.

With this backdrop and EA wanting to find the new call of duty killer Crysis 3 is here. Some are saying that consoles are due a new release and getting a bit long in the tooth. Still think they are here for 2 or so years more before details of the new versions are released. Could be wrong and we could see new console within one year.
Crytek give us the 3rd Crysis , sadly the demo is online only no single player demos can't remember the last time one was released.
This gives me the impression that EA are trying and banking on this being a COD killer and hoping people keep around for the online longer compared to 2nd game.
Based on the fact we have a dozen or so new challenges I would not be off the mark with saying EA are betting on this game making it big.

That a pretty long introduction but still important.
So crysis 3 is being released in the backdrop of this, the result I love the game but hate how EA is dealing with it.

Anywho on to the review

It not a straight up call of duty clone , it does share some things like the xp system, which is pretty much standard. It copies the daily challenge system from a number of games and has a challenge system in place for weapons. Pretty much standard stuff that call of duty made perfect.
Perk system is in the game with you being able to select difference things to add to your charter.
Nano suits comes back and that changes the metagame , compared to call of duty combat comes down to management of your nano suit.
The result is pretty interesting combat you can go into amour mode all guns blazing or go into cloak mode or both.
Crysis 2 you have to balance running moving too with your power supply , on top of your amour or cloaking. The result for most causal players too much to management too much to handle , to be fair I do understand that. It took a couple dozen hours to even begin to understand how to do it and how to be good at it. Even when you did it was pretty hard to balance it all and turned a lot of players off.
The change done is no longer have to balance running or moving with your supplies the results more focus on the combat and it easier to get used too.
Only change that I noticed so far from playing the game apart from some changes in the lag compensation model and latency models. Matchmaking has improved but still needs work , not many people online it easy to see they improved it at the lower end.
If you enjoyed the first Crysis but hated the suit management being so harsh you should enjoy this without a doubt.
Here is the problem....if you hated any of that you're going to hate this but still worth trying and playing. It free after all and may enjoy it won't lie at first Crysis 2 I hated it but more I played the beta/demo more I liked it and did buy it.
On my biggest regrets was not putting many hours into Crysis 2 , something I'm thinking about changing with 3.
Do enjoy Crysis for a number of reason it brings back a couple of old skills from the old days of shooters like strafing and management of combat. But at the same time it makes it easy for a causal player to play.
Result is a highly deep megagame if you are willing to put effort into the game, and that is fantastic. It has depth in the combat that lacking from call of duty and allows players to do some pretty imagination things.

Only two maps in the demo with both being difference to each other one is a green landscape with bits of building but overall very green. The other is the underside of a city just a mess and dark with heavy greyness. Need more time to play but the maps often loads of flank routes.
Nothing to complain about when it comes to the map would like some more but hey can't get everything in life.
Visual style mix of modern but sci fi elements means it a beautiful looking game. On top of that it also has the benefit of running some pretty clever tricks to make it look even better on console. Only console I played it so far on was the 360, may download the demo on PS3 and play that but for a old console no faults.
Visual pornography mixed with gun pornography nothing a fan of a shooter is going to hate. Yes you can reblind the controls for call of duty players.

One thing that has been bugging me about shooters for the past couple of years they all try and clone call of duty formula in the hope of people playing it. This is the wrong way of going about the call of duty problem. End result we get a sea of generic crap that dies and kills off IP's. A good example is the medal of honor series.
What did EA try , market it as a call of duty killer and say it was not but still marketed it. Also put it on a 2 year release cycle in the hope of it being a success.
What they should have done released it at a lower price and knew that the call of duty crowd did not want what medal of honor was.
Real irony is that medal of honor and call of duty both share the same stupidly low time to kills.
Okay I know i'm going off topic but still important and hoping you get my point. Straight up cloning , poor marketing has killed many shooters. If you want to become the big new thing you need to try something new and have some depth into your gameplay, that is pretty hard to pull off.
Medal of honour failed due to poor marketing , being a difference formula, too high of a price and failure of marketing. My fear is that Crysis 3 is going to end up the same way as medal of honour war fighter did.
Crysis 3 is close to the call of duty formula but not the same dish, hoping it comes off as a success lasts longer than a month or two. Hoping the gamble pays off and don't see another IP down the toilet along with millions of dollars.

Overall I like this game a lot but do have some fears it going to die fast. It should be fun to play and something else to play. Love how you can play different styles and not limited. Would liked to see it released at a lower price point but that me.

I don't know this game seems like a mix of Homefront + star wars.
I like some of the features such as the slide and air stomp.
Other than that I don't really like it.

all the games that tryed to kill call of duty had 1 thing in common they had alot of bugs. exect battlefield those are the only ones i can think of that really didn't.

1. Homefront. the multiplayer was really buggy and i was reset at rank 25 for no reason and had to buy another online pass.
2. Crysis 2 the online would get buggy and no one really played it much
3. Killzone 3 ONE OF MY favorite games i didn't even want this at first but my sister bought me it randomly. It was great story and great online but people don't like the halo feel so it doesn't get played as much but i still play often.

also im not downloading it because of the size its 14gb. i would have to delete some stuff and i have so internet so it would take a like a whole day and most of the night probably

Get better webz guy!!
It about 2Gb on console , console can be pretty fast at times hate to see how fast PC would be.

BF3 had a high number of bugs on release. To be fair most of the games which try and take on call of duty suffer from the same connection issues or worse. And call of duty does a great job in terms of connections , sometimes it can poop on you.
Only played the demo for homefront and felt it needed to be released at a lower price point. Did enjoy the game but decided not to pick it up due to not many people playing it , it was awesome dead when I tried the demo.
Crysis 2 had massive latency problems due the matchmaking on console that was the biggest problem it had. Rest of the game was smooth , with this demo they improved it. I was playing it the other night on a 1 bar and doing pretty well.

Most online games suffer from matchmaking issues , not many bugs or glitchs appear. And latency can make the game not smooth but tricks to make it smooth.

If people want to take the crown from call of duty , I feel they need to release at a lower price point and not follow call of duty 100%.

Any reason why :p !!

I don't think it any more boring compared to any shooter released.

What don't you like about it ? It a small jump from easy spray mode call of duty which may turn some players off. On top of the nano suit being so important.

Air stomp is awesome! Happy
