i succesfully installed a turbo on a Toyota 86GT.

how i did it;

-change the bodycode of the car you want to install a turbo to the bodycode of a turbo car
-buy a turbo for that car in game
-change the bodycode back

the horsepower will still be the same but you can do the FFFFFFFF thing on the turbo with the editor.

How exactly are you getting the turbo to stay on?

Using your above method, initially the turbo installs, but it reverts back to regular.

select the car by going to your garage and press triangle.
when you go as far in garage that you see your car rotate, that's the part that the game loads your cardata.
maybe that's the reason why it gets reset.
i select my cars with triangle and the gauge is still working on my car.
