The Plot:
Far Cry 3 takes place on a tropical island found somewhere at the intersection of the Indian and Pacific Oceans. The main goal of the game is to save your kidnapped friends and escape from the islands and their unhinged inhabitants.
Far Cry 3 returns the series to a tropical island setting, similar to the first game and unlike the second game, which took place in an African savanna setting. Players will assume the role of protagonist Jason Brody, part of a group of friends on vacation who end up getting captured by Vaas, the leader of a group of pirates working for a slave trafficking ring. Jason escapes and now seeks to rescue his friends. In the short demo trailer that was the first footage released of the game in development, Jason interacts with Vaas (voice, motion capture and facial motion capture by Michael Mando), who gives an unsettling monologue about the nature of insanity before trying to drown Jason by anchoring him to a cinder block and throwing him into a natural pool of water that has clearly been used repeatedly for this purpose.
Campaign(s):
- Story Missions — These missions are to do with the storyline. They advance the player through the game.
- Side Missions — The player can talk to locals and Rakyat members and help them with their problems, leading to some interesting rewards.
- Path of the Hunter — These missions are unlocked by liberating Outposts. They ask you to hunt animals for their skin or avenge people they killed. Some animals can be used in crafting.
- Supply Drop — These missions are also unlocked by liberating outposts. You must drive through markers on a Quad Bike or other vehicle to deliver medical supplies in the time provided.
- Trial of the Rakyat — These survival-based missions are found on large red-coloured rocks. The trials force you to gun your way through waves of enemy troops within a time limit, with a fixed set of weapons.
Wanted Dead — In this mission you must find a pirate commander and kill him with either your machete or takedown. You can use any weapons to kill the remaining pirates.
The campaigns in my opinion are fun, and Far Cry 3 is a game I would replay numerous times. I love it all around and its quite the excitement.
Campaign rating: 9.5/10
Co-op:
Far Cry 3 features a Co-Op story mode that takes place six months prior to the single-player campaign. It focuses on four characters being scammed out of their money by pirates while working to redeem themselves on a cruise ship.
The multiplayer is amazing, reminds me of Call of Duty but better in my opinion, I'm not much of a COD fan though so I'm sure my opinion is way different than the average gamers. Though multiplayer tends to piss me off but that's every competitive game.
Multiplayer rating: 9/10
Map editor:
The map editor in Far Cry 3 is far more advanced than those of previous games, allowing players to place down AI and wildlife of any type, however AI, weapons and vehicles can only be used for personal use.
The map editor is fun to mess around with, I enjoyed making my own island to mess around on and this editor is by far better than the previous Far Cry's.
Map editor rating: 9.9/10
Graphics:
Graphics could of been a lot better but I'm not going to complain because the game was still fun. Actually I am going to complain, I thought this was an HD television? To be honest the graphics remind me of a PS2 game, though its better than a PS game.
Graphics rating: 6/10
Overall:
Overall, the game is one of my most favorite games to play in my free time. If you haven't played it I suggest you go buy, or even rent it and try it out.
Overall rating: 9.5/10
