Activision stated that Destiny had achieved 4.6 million users across the variety of consoles. The beta was open from July 17 to July 28 where they had closed access to the beta.
This is an astonishing number for a beta release which was composed of 11GB to download. This huge file size restricted many to play, so numbers are expected to rise!
Activision also claimed that this is the highest beta usage to date on the Playstation 4 and Xbox One.

Activision Publishing CEO Eric Hirshberg stated,
"We were totally blown away by the number of people who played the beta. We surpassed even our own goals and the feedback was invaluable."
“We cannot thank the community enough, the response was humbling and in the weeks ahead we'll be working hard to ensure that Destiny lives up to the expectations at launch."

They don't have to expect same number on the pre-order sales, cause thanks goes to amazon pre-order loop for that big number :p, anyway it was amazing game though and i'm going to buy it as soon as it get released.
True...but I think more than half of the people who played the beta will purchase the game at release date. It was a pretty good beta for a beta :p
